Dreaming Big

cspainey September 7th, 2010, 3:26 pm

Every once in a while I'll realize that something — be it the strange way that anthropomorphic chair sat opposite me on the train made of toothpicks is looking at me, or the fact I seem to be walking up the sides of buildings a lot more efficiently than I usually do — isn't quite right with the world.

I'll then come to realize too that the reason for this is primarily that the world in question exists entirely in my own head.

And then someone will say something to nudge me back into whatever strange story my mind has concocted, the same way a character in a poorly written play might attempt to distract an audience from their growing disinterest by reminding them that there is presumably a worthwhile plot line forthcoming — and find myself drawn in again, every time!

I'm just a sucker for narrative.

heehee I likes :) ..i know how this feels when you wake up like DAMN IT BRAIN!

I've had some dreams where i've known i was dreaming but went along with it for some reason knowing that i'd be safe.. but then i'd suddenly get confused like "wait a second-IS THIS REAL? AM I NOT REALLY DREAMING..? SHIT!" and then i wake up like oooh yeh i was, i wasnt reeally going to be swamped by a tsunami :D

I've realised I was dreaming a few times before...annoying to get sucked back in, but awesome as all get-out when I'm able to play around. Seriously, Inception depressed me, because I just kept thinking how great it would be to induce lucid dreaming.

LUCID DREAMING! :D There are whole websites dedicated to this! I first learned about it 4 years ago, and I've been trying for it ever since, and even made comics of my attempts.

And this is SO true sometimes. Why do we have to be so dumb in dreams? T_T

I often realise I'm dreaming

but then when I try to change things nothing happens. It's like I know I'm dreaming but don't really believe I can do anything.

Just like when Neo tries his first jump! :P

Now, I've actually jumped off a balcony and flown around, simply because I couldn't remember ever flying in a dream. It was awesomecakes. Of course, the dream was also some sort of 3D Mario game, so maybe it was just easier to recognise that it wasn't real.

There are apparently certain ways to induce lucid dreaming, though I've never been successful with any. I started reading about that kinda stuff way back when (probably when I was around 10 or so?), and tried to actively enter a state of lucidity — but it kinda had the opposite effect, and for some reason I ended up going a year or so without dreaming at all (at least, not remembering what I'd dreamt) :\ so that kinda sucked.

Pretty cool though, even when you don't take control but are still just aware; if only for that unique feeling upon waking of "That was so awesome!/God-DAMNIT why didn't I do more awesome stuff?!"

@Rajay — haha yeah, I admit they weren't supposed to come out so girly... still getting used to inking with a brush! (But I guess it is somewhat accurate, since I actually do have pretty small, girlish hands! ...Don't tell anyone though >o>) Also I believe the jam is raspberry! Although it is a dream, so you never know.

Could be robot jam.

@Ddraigeneth — I think a 3D Mario world would still have fooled me! ;D
